Overslept! Cannot believe in 2 years of getting up early for races I finally did it.
Still raining out, but it stopped for awhile and I got out for 2, 1/2 hours and wrote 50 miles in my training diary, but there were no computers at this time, so I was over guesstimating. I felt good but the rain caught me for the last hour.
I see where I have only 400 miles in my legs after a winter of cross country skiing so it is probably best that I did not get up on time to race Central Park in the rain.
Coming from Vermont to New Jersey I am impressed that there are some beautiful areas to ride near Princeton. My goal for April is to get in 1200 miles, it will be interesting to see how many miles I actually get in, but they will not be based on the accuracy of a computer. We don’t know about them yet.
We are still wearing wool shorts, hairnets with toe clips and friction shifting on the downtube.
I am still on my oversized (too big) 60cm Raleigh Pro with all Campagnolo Record that I bought at La jolla Cyclery for $335.00. Sold the Raleigh in late April for $325.00 and Fritz let me buy a 59 cm Cinelli from him, but it was still a little too big. I would go on to ride stage races in Quebec and Ireland and then the World Championships all on the wrong size bike. When I finally got my team issue Raleigh a year and a half later it too would be a 59, because that was the size I was currently riding. It would be a few more years before I finally arrived at the right size frame. It is now year 2012, and I watch streaming video of the Rhonde on my laptop before switching over to Phil & Paul on network television for the last 2 hours. Sorry to see Cancellara crash out but glad to see Boonen get the win. No ride for me today, got my first cold in a year and I should be back on the bike Monday with my computer, cadence, heartrate monitor, and 17 pound bike, (size 57cm) which is considered “Old School” these days.
